BTEC LEVEL 2 Award in Physical Intervention & Disengagement
Course Length: 3 days
Course Curriculum:
Unit 1: Law and Risks of Physical Intervention When Working with Children and Vulnerable Adults (10 Hours);
Core Units
Unit 3: Non-restrictive Methods of Disengagement and Physical Intervention (10 Hours).
and
Unit 4: Restrictive Methods of Physical Intervention (10 Hours).
Pre-Registration Requirements
Candidates who register for the BTEC Level 2 Award in Disengagement and Physical Intervention Skills must have:
- The physical capability to be able to undertake physical skills training, and
- The personal ability to undertake classroom training and sit written exam papers.
BTEC Level 2 – Safe and effective use of restraint equipment (Handcuff training)
Course Length: 1 Day
Course Curriculum:
- The requirement to use non-physical skills as far as possible.
- The law in relation to using reasonable force and self defence.
- The value of assessing a situation before intervening.
- Using physical intervention as a last resort.
- Possible medical implications.
- The potential legal implications of the techniques.
- Disengagement techniques.
- Escorting and guiding skills.
- Holding and containment skills.
- Carrying and holding the Handcuffs.
- Utilisation of the Handcuffs.
- Deployment of Handcuffs on compliant and non-compliant people.
The techniques taught through this module based training are fully in accordance with current Police guidelines and have been Home Office approved.
